Introduction
Welcome
to the New Year 2010! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable
holiday and are excited about NFLT’s coming events.
We
had two very successful productions this past fall: Beyond Reasonable
Doubt and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Both productions
were creative and financial successes.
Beyond Reasonable Doubt used a thrust stage which put the audience
right into the action of the play. It was also great to have
many new people involved both on and behind the stage. This
speaks well to the continued growth of our group.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever once again gave an opportunity
for many of our young people to be involved in a quality theatre
production. This production also involved many new participants
both on and off stage. The desire for young people to be active
in theatre is evident with theirs and their families’ commitment
over the two month period of rehearsals. I hope that we can
continue to find the leadership required to support our young
folks!
Our
play
selection committee consisting of Kelli Bell, Nina Jenkins and Karin Reynolds will
be putting forth to the executive and the membership at our
Annual Meeting in May recommendations for the 2010-2011 Season.
Please let any of them know if you have suggestions for plays
that would be suitable for our group: plays with children, musicals,
comedies or dramas. We have already had several suggestions
which are being considered and look forward to hearing of others.
Upcoming Productions
Our spring production (late April or early
May) will be Nunsense. We chose this play because
it involves a small cast and as a comic musical provides a balance
to the Fall productions. We performed Nunsense 2 in the fall
of 1994 with great success. Nunsense will prove to be a similar
fun romp of adult theatre. Nunsense was first performed at the
Cherry Lane Theatre in New York on December 12, 1985. The author,
Dan Goggin, says that he spent a great deal of his life around
nuns and each of the Little Sisters of Hoboken is based on a
real-life nun though it may be hard to believe after seeing
the play. There are five nuns; each with singing roles: Sister
May Regina, a model Mother Superior; Sister Mary Hubert, a kind
and diplomatic person; Sister Robert Anne, a tough, streetwise
nun; Sister Mary Amnesia, a picture of innocence with amnesia;
Sister Mary Leo, a professional dancer eager to display her
talent.

will be asked to read a selection of the script for the
part that they would be interested in. No previous experience
necessary; that’s what Community Little Theatre is about.
Barb
Rodgers is also looking for people who would like to work backstage
e.g. Stage manager, prompter, set design, construction, lighting,
makeup, house manger, ticket takers, poster design, videographer,
etc.
Working
on Nunsense will be an enjoyable way to spend the winter months!!
